Working Girl

I Know You're a Working Girl
That Line's been Towed
Around the World.

But Love is a Precious Work
You See
Show your Worth Respectfully

He Can Feel EVERYTHING You Wield
When Love is Real
That's the Deal

AUTHOR'S NOTE: 9:30 PM, Thursday, June 14--I got a few confused personal communications after I published this poem. It's nothing all that cryptic. I have a friend who was agonizing over the loss of her "perfect" figure...in the wake of pregnancy. Could I have spoken with her before post-partum depression set in, I would have reminded her that successfully mothering a child is about the sexiest thing a woman can do. The illusion that having a "perfect" body is what men find most attractive about a woman is ludicrous vis-a-vis pregnancy.

I don't understand all the deep psychology, but pregnancy essentially verifies (to a man's biological systems) the woman's innate sexual-potency, and is actually something of a secret turn-on. Personally, I hope that the sight of my friend's distended abdomen makes the kid's father more willing to love the woman AND the child unconditionally, and without reservation.
